“THE ADVANTAGE”

John 16:5-15 NKJV

”“But now I go away to Him who sent Me, and none of you asks Me, ‘Where are You going?’ But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: of sin, because they do not believe in Me; of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged. However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.

He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.“

Jesus leaving and the Holy Spirit coming was for our ADVANTAGE.

The Holy Spirit coming and convicting was needed to also confirm the word of the Lord…

John 14:15-17 NKJV

“If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.

Jesus’ corporal presence could be put in one place at one time, but His Spirit is every where, in all places, at all times, wherever two or three are gathered in His name. Christ's bodily presence draws men's eyes, His Spirit draws their hearts; His Spirit gives life.

The Holy Spirit came to convict… Why do we need deeper conviction?

1.         Deeper conviction leads to deeper roots

Colossians 2:6-7 AMP

Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, walk in [union with] Him [reflecting His

character in the things you do and say—living lives that lead others away from sin], having been deeply rooted [in Him] and now being continually built up in Him and [becoming increasingly more] established in your faith, just as you were taught, and overflowing in it with gratitude.

Deeper roots allow us to be uprooted when needed, replanted and continue to grow.

2.         Deeper conviction leads to deeper wells Genesis 26:18 NKJV

And Isaac dug again the wells of water which they

had dug in the days of Abraham his father, for the Philistines had stopped them up after the death of Abraham. He called them by the names which his father had called them.

WELLS BRING FORTH LIFE… water represented life… and deeper wells represent deeper resources to sustain life

Isaac had to did deeper to unearth the plugged up wells and receive life from what was already done before…

Isaac must have had a deep conviction about the life sustaining provision of God… so much so that he was willing to dig open wells His father once dug… Believing without a doubt that if God did it for those that went before him, God will do it again.

3.         Deeper conviction leads to deeper truths

Sin is the truth about man, righteousness is the truth about God, judgment is the inevitable combination of these two truths.

“The truth hurts but the truth sets us free”.

John 8:31-32 NKJV

Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed

Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

We need to deepen our knowledge of the truth of God’s word so we don’t become deceived by false doctrine, false prophets, or anything that would exalt itself against the knowledge of God.
