“Aim small, miss small”

THE PRINCIPLE OF “AIM SMALL, MISS SMALL

– If you just aim at a target, you may miss the target entirely, but if you focus and aim at the center of the bullseye, you may miss it, but still hit the target.

In life, many times, we are aiming for something more, something greater, something BIGGER… And if you’re like me, many times we don’t hit the target like we wanted to, sometimes it feels like we don’t even reach the target let alone hit it with accuracy…

Aim small, miss small requires greater focus…

We need to aim small, miss small in strategic areas of our life…

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT FOR US TO REMEMBER AND APPLY THE PRINCIPLE OF AIM SMALL, MISS SMALL?… IT REDUCES THE MARGIN FOR ERROR.

How many times have we been aiming for something in this life and because we didn’t aim

small, the margin of error was far bigger than we thought possible and it probably left us with nothing but questions on why we didn’t hit the target, we were probably left with nothing more than regret, left with a broken heart, again… we were aiming for something big but didn’t take the time to learn how to aim small and focus on the adjustments needed, the recalibration of our life, to ensure a successful hit on the desired target at that time…

Now we can see how this concept is a practical principal we can use in and for our lives when we look at how God aimed small with us

Yes, God aimed small with us. God, the creator of all things, the one who holds the world in His hands, the beginning and the end, God almighty, the everlasting God, our mighty warrior, the one who never lost a battle and never will!

The God of heaven and earth, the one who is and who was and who is to be…

The magnitude of the universe, galaxies, planets, life itself is so great…. We are so small in comparison but God still chose to aim small and save us!! God chose to send His one and only begotten son to die

on the cross for our sins so we could be set free and reach our potential in life and be who God has called us to be!!

God aimed small with us so we could reach the world for His honor and His glory!

Victory Outreach International started in a small lounge in East Los Angeles but has since become the biggest inner city ministry in the world!

Victory Outreach South Africa started small right here in Cape Town, but now has 8 churches throughout the country and is a major contributor to the international/worldwide vision!

AND WE AREN’T DONE YET! THERE’S MORE CITIES TO TAKE, MORE COUNTRIES TO EXPAND TO, MORE SOULS TO BE WON!

We need more like the Apostle Paul… Romans 15:20 NKJV

And so I have made it my aim to preach the gospel,

not where Christ was named, lest I should build on another man’s foundation,

Paul wanted to take more territory for God! And throughout scripture we can see how he aimed small in different places, in different matters, but he was eventually able to aim at bigger targets as he stayed faithful and consistent and grew in the Lord…

Luke 16:10 NIV

“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.

We can start by aiming small in our…

1.   CAUSE…

Learning how to aim small, miss small can start right here in the church…

2 Corinthians 13:11 ESV

Finally, brothers, rejoice. Aim for restoration, comfort one another, agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you.

Our aim shouldn’t be to tear anyone down but to build each other up…

Those of us who feel the call of God for something more, something greater… sometimes we have to begin to aim a little smaller right where we are before we can go further… we have to build locally with an international heart… we have to grow and bloom where God has planted us… and trust in His plan and His purpose for our lives…

Jeremiah 1:5 NKJV

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you;

I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”

Once again God aimed small with us first… follow the plan, follow His steps and when the time is right and the target gets bigger, we will have learned to aim and not miss.

All of us are called by God.

But nevertheless we all are called to build in the kingdom of God and right now our church is primed and ready for growth as we aim small with our Victory Groups…

This leads me to the second area we need to aim small in… we need to aim small in our

2.   COMMUNITY…

Our “COMMUNITY” is two fold… We have our physical community around us and we also have our spiritual community or spiritual “family”

The challenge for us is to make sure the right one is influencing the other… Our spiritual community should be a growing influence on our physical community…

If God himself thought it was important and worth it to aim small and focus in on our personal salvation then how much more should we be willing to focus in and take aim on the salvation of those around us!?

Romans 14:17-19 NLT

For the Kingdom of God is not a matter of what we eat or drink, but of living a life of goodness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. If you serve Christ with this attitude, you will please God, and others will approve of you, too. So then, let us aim for

harmony in the church and try to build each other up.

Aim for harmony in our relationships… in our friends, family, marriage, co workers, co laborers…

We should focus in on relationships that produce good within and around us…

1 Corinthians 15:33 NIV

Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.

Last but definitely not least… we need to aim small in our

3.   CHARACTER…

We should aim small in our personal life first… some of us want the love and blessing of a relationship with our soul mate but aren’t willing to aim small in our character, in our attitude, in our bad habits…

If we want to improve in good character… we have to follow others who have it…

“A wise man learns from his mistakes, but the wisest man learns from the mistakes of others so he doesn’t have to make them.”

2 Timothy 3:10-11 ESV

You, however, have followed my teaching, my conduct, my aim in life, my faith, my patience, my love, my steadfastness, my persecutions and sufferings that happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, and at Lystra—which persecutions I endured; yet from them all the Lord rescued me.

Here Paul is making a clear divide between Timothy (someone who followed him and conducted himself accordingly to the gospel of Jesus Christ) and those who character would be caught up and ruled by the spirit of the last days.

This is something we can all see happening more than ever before in history… where even churches, pastors, believers are straying from the Bible and their character is corrupted by the spirit of the last days… the spirit that causes people to become lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, full of self pride (that self made mentality), where blaspheming is common place on social media,

children are deliberately disobedient to God and His word (and their parents)

We need to be on high alert and take aim at those things that try to creep into our lives, into our family, into our children, into our loved ones, into those around us at work and school… we can prevent this type of destruction by aiming small at the areas that are still under construction in our character… we need to be willing to aim small and focus in on changing those areas and strengthening the walls of our character in Christ…

AIM SMALL, MISS SMALL.

Song of Solomon 2:15 NKJV

{Her Brothers} Catch us the foxes,

The little foxes that spoil the vines, For our vines have tender grapes.

It’s the small things that can create the greatest damage…

The smallest amber from a fire can destroy so much…

WE CAN’T IGNORE THE LITTLE THINGS…

“Little sins are parents of the greatest.”

WE NEED TO TAKE AIM WHERE IT COUNTS THE MOST…

2 Corinthians 5:9 NKJV

Therefore we make it our aim, whether present or absent, to be well pleasing to Him.

2 Timothy 2:4 ESV

No soldier gets entangled in civilian pursuits, since his aim is to please the one who enlisted him.
