Benefits of the Family

Benefits of the Family

(Today’s Take Away)

Acts 2:42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

Who is your spiritual family? It’s your brothers and sisters in the family of God.

Jesus said, “Whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother” (Matthew 12:50 NIV). That means, if you follow Jesus, you and I are related! God’s grace through Jesus Christ bonds us together as family. You’ve heard the old phrase, “Blood is thicker than water.” That’s true! But grace is thicker than genetics. – Rick Warren

  1. Protection in the family

The bible teaches us that as we become Christians we automatically have an adversary or an enemy that would love to take us back to where we came from.

I Peter 5:8 Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

Lions when they attack their prey they target the one who is furthest from the herd, and then they work together as a team to isolate that one and take him down.

Education in the family

The second benefit that takes place in an individual’s life from engaging in the family is that we grow in our knowledge as believers.

Hosea 4:6            my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.

We as believers worship and serve God according to our concept or understanding of God.

The early church engaged on a daily basis with the believers that had been with Jesus, therefore they grew in their knowledge and understanding of who God was how much He loved them and how He desired them to live their lives within a fallen world.

Matt 8:31 “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Not just hearing the truth, but knowing the truth brings true freedom and true victory to a person’s life.

Sanctification in the family

They say God loves us just the way we are but He loves us too much to leave us like that.

Sanctification – Sanctification is a process of heart and life and everyday active transformation.

Rom 12: 2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

It's like, you join a swim club, and someone says, “Well, now you're a swimmer,” but you don't know how to swim. And you need to be taught and empowered, so that you can actually live as a swimmer.

Fellowship of the body of Christ, important part of sanctification. doing everything I can to develop my biblical literacy and my theological understanding is part of God's tool of sanctification. Being humble and approachable, so people who see things about me that I don't see is part of what God will use to sanctify me,

Purpose in the family

The last thing I would like to look at is that as a person engages in the life of the family they begin to discover their passions and gifting’s that God has given them to advance the kingdom of God.

Eph 2:10 For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
