TIME TO CONQUER
It’s our time to conquer…
CONQUER: Overcome and take control by military force; to successfully overcome (a problem or weakness)
We all have things in life that we need to conquer… we all have battles we are facing in life that we need to overcome and take control of…
We are a people of war, enlisted in the army of the Lord.
WE SERVE AN ALMIGHTY GOD WHO HAS CONQUERED ALL!
WE SERVE THE KING OF KINGS AND THE LORD OF LORDS, WE SERVE THE ONE AND ONLY RISEN KING… THE ONE
WHO CONQUERED DEATH AND THE GRAVE!
THE ONE WHO HAS NEVER AND WILL NEVER BE DEFEATED!
God has called us to conquer because He has given us promises. (Our promise land)
God desires to fight for us and do miracles, signs and wonders to achieve victory over any and every enemy that stands against us.
Joshua 10:12-14 NKJV
Then Joshua spoke to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel: “Sun, stand still over Gibeon; And Moon, in the Valley of Aijalon.” So the sun stood still, And the moon stopped, Till the people had revenge upon
their enemies. Is this not written in the Book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and did not hasten to go down for about a whole day. And there has been no day like that, before it or after it, that the LORD heeded the voice of a man; for the LORD fought for Israel.
We see how Joshua was able to ask God for a miracle so the people could take revenge on their enemy and become conquerors.
We see how God responded with a miracle and fought for His people…
But in order to experience the miracles of God that fight for us to conquer the land promised to us, we have to be CONNECTED.
Joshua was CONNECTED…
1) To God
He had a personal relationship with God
Joshua 1:6 NKJV
“Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them.
He knew God’s voice… from the very beginning he knew how to converse with His maker… which many times means listening and believing more than talking and questioning.
Joshua 3:4-5 NKJV
“Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure. Do not come near it, that you may know the way by which you must go, for you have not passed this way before.”
And Joshua said to the people, “Sanctify yourselves, for tomorrow the LORD will do wonders among you.”
We can also see how Joshua was connected to God because he never forgot what God had already done for him… never forgot how good God has already been to him.
Joshua was camped at Gilgal which was a very important place in which God fulfilled His promises to His people
Joshua was CONNECTED…
2) To God’s Word
He LISTENED AND OBEYED God’s word
Some of us might listen every service and respond but don’t fully surrender in obedience to God’s word…
Joshua 1:7-9 NKJV
“Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go.
“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your
God is with you wherever you go.”
Joshua listened to God’s word and obeyed it… especially when it came to personal gain or benefit…
Joshua was CONNECTED…
3) To God’s People
– Joshua was connected to the right people.
In the book of Numbers chapter 14 we see how Joshua was connected to Caleb.
There were twelve spies sent into the promised land and 10 out of 12 didn’t believe that it could be conquered. Even though God promised it, 10 out of 12 didn’t think they could do it. And to make it even worse they discouraged everyone else around them so much that they all began to complain and wish they would have stayed in slavery in Egypt!
But 2 out of the 12 had a different type of CONNECTION to God.. Joshua and Caleb were the only two who saw the same thing as the other 10 but had a different
perspective and believed IF GOD SAID IT, I BELIVE IT, THAT SETTLES IT.
Joshua was CONNECTED to the right person that believed in God’s promises for their lives and for future generations to come.
We can also see how Joshua was connected to Moses and kept himself in a place of service to his leader.
– Joshua kept the posture of a student.
He wasn’t looking for natural favor from the man himself but knowing the supernatural favor and blessing that would overflow onto his life as he continued to stay close and learn from the man God was using.
Joshua was willing to serve and learn how to stay CONNECTED, so one day he too could become a CONQUEROR.
(Recap)
No matter what, we will experience war in this life… but we don’t camp out on the battlefield forever… God has called us to CONQUER what was promised to us.
– Once we conquer the land God promised to us we are able to experience the joys and the freedom of our promised land.
We become Conquerors through the being CONNECTED to…
- God
- First and foremost, above all else
- God’s word
- It is our firm foundation
- God’s people
- We may need to disconnect from the wrong people and make new connections with God’s people (the right people)
